Guna Yala: Safe, Exclusive, and Authentic

The San Blas Islands lie within the semi-autonomous Guna Yala territory along Panama’s northeastern Caribbean coast. Stretching over 200 miles of pristine coastline and encompassing 365 islands—only around 50 inhabited—the archipelago is home to the ancestral Guna people, who maintain close-knit governance through the Congreso General Guna. This ensures well-managed islands, protected natural beauty, and a tourism experience that respects local culture and traditions.

For catamaran travelers, this creates an unmatched combination of safety, exclusivity, and authenticity. Our itineraries focus on a calm, reef-protected 20-mile zone, ideal for families and offering total peace of mind, while still allowing access to remote, untouched islands. Guna Yala’s careful management and deep-rooted community oversight guarantee that visitors enjoy a secure, seamless experience far from crowded tourist hubs—perfect for premium, all-inclusive charters that immerse guests in the true spirit of San Blas.

Safety Realities Across the Caribbean &
Why San Blas Stands Apart

While many well-known Caribbean destinations have experienced growing safety concerns—including Jamaica, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia, and even the British Virgin Islands, which reported numerous serious incidents in 2024—San Blas stands apart. Governed by the Guna people and managed through the Congreso General Guna, strict local regulations and monitored access create a secure environment with virtually zero crime.

Natural reefs form a sheltered sailing corridor, and local charters maintain constant communication, establishing an effective safety network. For travelers seeking pristine landscapes, privacy, and complete peace of mind, San Blas offers a uniquely protected and exclusive Caribbean sanctuary.

Bad Weather Policy

San Blas is naturally protected and enjoys stable conditions year-round, but safety always comes first.

What we consider “bad weather”:

  • Persistent, non-stop heavy rain.

  • Road access cut or unsafe

  • Conditions that compromise safety or logistics

In these cases, a full refund applies. If it’s only occasional rain (common in the tropics), operations continue as planned.

Light showers do not affect sailing quality or safety. We always communicate clearly and proactively.
